 Golf in Dubai

Dubai has become a big golfing destination over the past few years and boasts several championship courses designed by big names but cheap they aren’t, at the top spots green fees soar to Dh 850 for 18 holes. Rates quoted in this section apply during the peak winter season (Nov – March) and drop rest of the year. Proper attire is essential. If you are keen for golf in Dubai then please reserve your tea times when you book your hotel and flight.

Al-Badia Golf Club
Close to the airport, this stunning course was designed by Robert Trent and is a pleasure to play – impeccably manicured and well laid out, with 11 lakes and several streams feeding into Dubai Creek. The changing rooms are like a mini-spa, complete with Sauna and Jacuzzi. Driving range access is Dh 75 and includes unlimited balls.

Arabian Ranches Golf Club
If you have golfed in the American Southwest (ie Palm Springs or Scottsdale) you will feel right at home on this 18-hole desert-style course designed by former golf champion Ian Baker-Finch. Nine -hole play also available.

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club
The one-time host course of the Dubai Desert Classic has been redesigned by a former winner of the tournament, Thomas Bjorn. The creek side location is gorgeous, as is the landscaping, with meticulously groomed fairways lined by date and coconut palms and water hazards. The high-class Park Hyatt Dubai is within walking distance of the greens. Beginners can go wild on the par-three nine-hole course (Dh 75).

Els Club
This one comes courtesy of US and British open winner Ernie Els. It was the first venue to open in 2008 at the ambitious Dubai sports city. On the edge of town, for now, it is a challenging course built right into the dunes with four teeing areas and a links-style layout.

Emirates Golf Club
The first grass championship course in the Middle East is home to the Dubai Desert Classic, a major tourney on the PGA European tour circuit. There are two 18-hole courses, the Faldo course designed by Nick Faldo and the Majlis course which, in 2009, got the nod from Golf Digest as one the best courses outside the USA.

Montgomerie Dubai
Fans of Scottish links will enjoy this world class course with 14 lakes and 81 bunkers designed by Colin Montgomerie. The par-three 13th hole is on an island shaped like the UAE and is purportedly the largest single green in the world: 58,000 sq ft, or the size of nine normal greens combined.
